Samsung announced the latest generation of Galaxy Watch at its annual Unpacked event. This year’s edition comes in two models – the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Both are the successor of last year’s Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic. Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is the company’s most durable smartwatch ever, launched with the enhanced sapphire crystal display, new D Buckle Design, titanium chassis, and a whopping 590mAh battery. The vanilla Galaxy Watch 5 also comes with the sapphire crystals display, a bigger battery, and improved sensors. The Watch 5 comes in two sizes – 40mm and 44mm, while the Pro edition comes in 45mm size only.
Both watches come with the latest wearOS 3.5 based One UI Watch 4.5 OS. And the process of setting up the watch is going to be the same for both Watch 5 and 5 Pro. Before moving to the steps, check out the prerequisites.
Prerequisites:
- Turn on the Bluetooth app on your Smartphone
- Install Galaxy Wearable app and Galaxy Watch 5 plugin app on your Android phone.
- Charge your Galaxy Watch 5 (Pro) to at least 40-50%
- Connect your phone to an active internet connection with WiFi or Cellular data
How to Pair Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro
First things first, you need to install the Galaxy Wearable app on your compatible Android device. For compatibility, the app is available for Android users running Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer. If you’ve installed the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone but have an old version of the app, make sure to update it to the latest version. Here I am attaching the app link to the Google Play Store.

After installing the app on your smartphone, you also need to install Galaxy Watch 5 plugin application on your device, here’s the link to the Galaxy Watch 5 Plugin.
How to put Galaxy Watch 5 in pairing mode
If you got a new Galaxy Watch 5 or Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and you boot it up for the first time, then your watch automatically boots up in pairing mode. You’ll see the welcome screen on your Galaxy Watch 5 right away after booting the watch.
Swipe up from the Welcome screen and it will show your Galaxy Watch model. Swipe up again and it will now take to a new screen where it will ask to proceed further in the Galaxy Wearable app. Before moving ahead, just want to recommend you charge your Watch before setting it up for the first time.
In case you want to connect your Galaxy Watch 5 to a new phone, then swipe down from the watch face and tap Settings. Now scroll down and open General Settings. In general, look for ‘Connect to new phone and tap it. It will remind you to back up your data. Take the backup or proceed further by tapping the Continue button. It will reset your watch and you will be able to Pair your Galaxy Watch 5 to a new phone.
How to Connect Galaxy Watch 5
Now that your watch 5 is in pairing mode, let’s dive right into the steps of pairing the Galaxy Watch 5 with an Android phone.
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app on your smartphone.
- Tap on the Start button on the welcome screen on the app, once you hit Start it will start scanning for the devices.
- Select the Galaxy Watch 5 or 5 Pro.
- Tap the Pair & Connect button on your phone, it will show a pairing code on both your phone and watch, you can tap on the Pair button if the code is the same on both devices.
- Now the app will ask you to grant the required permissions, the list includes access to the Phone, Contacts, SMS, Calendar, and Call logs. Tap Continue to allow the permissions, then tap Allow in a confirmation pop-up.
- Now it will ask you to install Galaxy Watch5 Manager (plugin) on your smartphone, you can tap ok to install it, or you can tap on this link to download it. It will not ask if you have already installed the app.
- Go back to the Galaxy Wearable app then, it will ask you to sign in to your Samsung Account to use features like Find My Watch, Samsung Health, Bixby, and Back up and Restore. You can skip this step if you want or sign in with your Samsung account, if you don’t have one, then you can sign up.
- On the next screen, it will show you the privacy policy page, you can review it and select/deselect as per your preference.
- Once allowed, a page with Google services pops up, you can review the services once, then tap more, then it will show you I agree button, tap on it.
- Now you’ll see the Getting your Watch ready screen on your smartphone’s screen. This process might take a little longer, so wait for a few minutes to complete.
- The app will verify your identity, you need to enter your phone’s passcode or fingerprint authentication.
- If you use any Galaxy Watch and have a backup stored on the cloud, you’ll see an option to restore it.
- Once all done, you can start using your Galaxy Watch 5.
- That’s it.
