No Blood Oxygen Detection for Apple Watch Series 10 in the US

Apple has launched a series of new tech products at its recently held “It’s Glowtime” event. Although the main attraction of the event was iPhone 16 lineup, the new Apple Watch Series 10 also comes with various upgrades. But here we will not talk about what’s new but rather about a feature that Apple Watch Series 10 users in the US will miss.

In the US, the Blood Oxygen Detection feature will not work on Apple Watch Series 10. This is due to the long running patent battle between Apple and Masimo. Masimo is a medical device company that filed the a lawsuit against Apple last year. The Blood Oxygen detection feature (SpO2) will be available in other regions, the exclusion applies only to the US.

If you remember, last year too Apple had to pause the sales of its Watch Series 9 because of the same patent case. Apple later disabled the Blood Oxygen detection on Watch Series 9 to resume sales.

It is not officially confirmed whether Apple has removed the Blood Oxygen detection from the hardware side or disabled it from the Software. I think the latter may be true, because if Apple wins the lawsuit, they will be able to enable the feature with a software update.

Blood Oxygen detection is a useful feature that lets you constantly keep track of the Oxygen levels in your blood. It is one of the metrics that is easy to detect accurately and is found even in budget smartwatches.

If you are someone that use Blood Oxygen detection regularly, you will miss this feature on Apple Watch Series 10. However, you can also get an Blood Oxygen detector separately, if you decide to buy the Watch Series 10.

Apple Watch Series is currently available for pre-order and it will go on sale starting September 20. Let us know if the lack of the blood detection feature is a deal breaker for you. Stay tuned for smartwatch guides.
