Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic are now the latest smartwatches from the South Korean tech giant. The new generation watch comes with many improvements. It is one of the real smartwatches (you know with all the smart features) and a direct competitor of Apple Watches. If you are an iPhone user and interested in the Galaxy Watch 6, you might want to know about its compatibility with iPhone. Here, you will get your answers.
Want to know if you can connect your Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 with iPhone or not? Read on to find out.
The number of iPhone users is increasing every year because of the great Apple ecosystem. However, Apple devices are also costly. So, if you have a nice iPhone but can’t get the Apple Watch, then you may be looking at some other alternative smartwatches, and that is where Galaxy Watches come into play. But before you make a purchase, you should know if you can use it with your iPhone or not.
Last year, we shared whether the Galaxy Watch 5 is compatible with iPhone or not. The Galaxy Watch 5 is still a valuable smartwatch that will be available at a huge discount on all platforms, now that the Galaxy Watch 6 has been launched. And this year, there haven’t been many upgrades, including compatibility. Yes, the Galaxy Watch 6 compatibility remains the same.
You Can Not Connect Galaxy Watch 6 With iPhone
Just like the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5, the Galaxy Watch 6 is not compatible with iPhones. The Galaxy Watch 6 is only recommended if you have an Android phone, especially a Samsung phone. Even on non-Samsung Android phones, some Galaxy Watch 6 features are limited.
Galaxy smartwatches running Tizen (Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Watch 2 Active, and original Galaxy Watch) are compatible with iPhones, but after the adoption of Wear OS starting from the Galaxy Watch 4, Samsung dropped the iPhone support for its smartwatches.
It’s not the same for all Wear OS smartwatches. Other smartwatch brands with the Wear OS platform, such as Montblanc and Fossil, still have support for iPhones. This means it is only Samsung that decided to keep its smartwatches exclusive to the Android platform. It might be because of the custom One UI which may not be fuild enough for operation with iPhones.
So yes, Samsung has full control over it and could decide to add iPhone compatibility, but looking at how things have been going over the last couple of years, this doesn’t seem to be happening at least anytime soon.
Are There Any Workaround?
No, there is no workaround to pair the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic with iPhones. This means you cannot use your Galaxy Watch 6 with an iPhone. However, you can use the watch as a standalone device after setting it up with an Android phone. But there will be limitations on what features you can use. You will still get to use some features of the smartwatch if it has access to the Internet.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Compatibility List
If you have an Android phone as a secondary device, you can connect your Galaxy Watch 6 to this phone. For many tasks like monitoring health parameters, you don’t need your watch to be connected to your phone all the time. However, you will need to connect it to your phone if you want to receive notifications from apps on your Phone and calls (for the WiFi Model) on your watch.
There are also eligibility criteria for Android phones as well. But they are mostly basic ones. Here’s the requirement.
- The device must be running Android 10 or higher
- Minimum 1.5GB RAM
- Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health App
- The phone must have GMS support
- Android Go phones are not supported
Can I Use Galaxy Watch 6 Without Phone?
Yes, you can use the Galaxy Watch 6 WiFi model as well as the Cellular model without a Phone. But to start using the smartwatch, you need to set it up using an Android phone. So for the setup process, you will need a phone and after the setup, you can use your Galaxy Watch 6 without a phone, of course with restricted features.
On the WiFi model, you need to be connected to the WiFi with active Internet to use features that require an Internet connection. The same goes for the Cellular model, but on that, you can also use your carrier’s Internet.
Features that specifically require a Phone connection will not work such as Calls (WiFi Model), Notification of Apps from your phone, and more.
So that’s all for this guide. If you still have any queries, you know where to leave them.
