The latest update for Fossil Gen 6 brings Google Assistant

Google Assistant is back!

Google Assistant is a popular voice assistant that is available on all Google-based operating systems. However, it was not initially present on most Wear OS 3 watches, except for the Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch.

The Google Assistant is now coming to Fossil Gen 6 running wear OS 3 with an update. Fossil has officially announced the update, although with limited information. According to the announcement, the Google Assistant will become available on Fossil Gen 6 watches through an automatic update.

It appears that some users have already received the Google Assistant on their Fossil Gen 6 watches. This indicates that the feature is currently being rolled out, although it may take time to reach all users. Following this, we may also expect the availability of Google Assistant on other smartwatches running Wear OS 3.

Fossil Gen 6 watches running Wear OS 2 had support for Google Assistant, but it was removed after updating to Wear OS 3. The same happened with other Wear OS watches, except for the Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch. Therefore, if you have lost access to Google Assistant, there is hope that it may be reintroduced in the future

For those who own a Fossil Gen 6 watch, you can check for the companion app update in the Play Store. After updating the app, you can then check for the update within the companion app itself.

If you don’t see the new update, you can try forcing the update on your smartwatch. To do this, open Settings on your watch and navigate to System > About > System updates. Tap continuously on the screen that says ‘System is up to date’ for about 30 seconds. In most cases, this will prompt the download of any available updates. If the update doesn’t start downloading, you can try again after waiting for some time.

After the update is downloaded, you can select Google Assistant as your default assistant. To do this, open the Companion app and navigate to My Preferences > Default Assistant. Here, you can choose between Google Assistant, Alexa, or None.

You will be able to use Google Assistant after setting it up on your Watch. Which is your favorite on Watch, Alexa or Google Assistant? Let us know your opinion.
